Usually we try to get a newsletter completed shortly after the conclusion of our most recent reunion, but we hope you will accept this belated effort.

The purpose of this newsletter is to serve as a refresher to those who were able to attend the most recent reunion, and to inform those who are interested in our activities, but unable to attend, of the activities and projects of the veterans of the 120th Evacuation Hospital.  We would hope also to include news of interest that may pertain  to the status of the group or individuals.

We are deeply indebted to Carl Lee and his daughter, Lynn Munch, for planning and hosting this, our 7th reunion, which was held at the Sheraton National Hotel on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. on September 22-24th, 2000.   All of the attendees agree that this was a very successful and pleasant reunion planned and executed under some difficult conditions.

For those of us who arrived by air, we were able to utilize the free shuttle service (provided every 1/2 hour) offered by the Sheraton to provide transportation for ourselves and our luggage to the hotel.  We then headed to the hospitality room to check in and receive our registration packets and a

unique 120th Evac Hosp.. cap which Carl had obtained for all  registrants.

As usual, the hospitality room was the center of activities for continental breakfasts, drinks, snacks, and a place to swap stories, meet new friends and old.  The room was large and well equipped, and we were able to use it for the

annual meeting on Sunday.

In our registration packet was included, along with a schedule of events and general information, a ticket for each individual for use on the Tourmobile which takes the visitor along the route from Arlington National Cemetery to all of the important spots in Washington, DC area.  The patron can use it for as many boarding as you desire between the hours of 9:30  AM and 4:30 PM.  Most of used this means to see many of the points of interest in  Washington DC on Saturday and Sunday.  Many of us visited, and were

welcomed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.  There are more interesting places to visit than there are hours in a day, but we all had enough free time to pick and choose our non-runion activities.

Early Friday morning we boarded busses to took us to Pier  4, where we boarded a Potomac River Cruise ship for a pleasant cruise down the Potomac River to Mount Vernon to visit the George Washington Mansion and Plantation. We spent hours exploring this unique historical area, and returned

to the hotel late that afternoon.

In addition to providing free shuttle bus service to and from the  Reagan National Airport, the hotel also provided that free shuttle service to Pentagon City Fashion Center Mall, and from there we could utilize the MetroTrain system to visit other places of interest,

We missed seeing several members who have attended previous reunions, and hope that circumstances will allow them to be present at out next reunion.

To those of you who have never attended our reunions, we wish to extend a special invitation to join us in the next reunion -- try it, we think you will like it!

Among those regulars who missed this reunion was Ruth Dickson, the instigator of the original reunion, and an active participant on the standing reunion committee. Ruth broke her hip earlier in the year and had not yet recuperated to a degree where she was comfortable in making the trip.  We  look forward to seeing her and others at the next reunion. We, and the hospitality room missed Darol Williamson, AKA “the ice man”  ,but with

the volunteer help of Dick and Lorna Wright, the Masons, Richard Mattern and others, we were able to fill the void.  Darol, you see how many people it took to do your work!   Dick and Lorna especially were there early and late

and took trips to the commissary with Carl to replenish supplies, and they deserve our special thanks.

We would like to offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to all the families that have lost loved ones this year. We are thinking of you and our prayers and thoughts are with you.

There will be a separate page of this newsletter listing the attendees of this Washington DC reunion.

At the annual meeting, we discussed a number of topics, but the majority               of the time  was used to discuss two major topics:

              1. When and where will we meet in 2001?

              2. Establishing a 120th Evacuation Hospital web site on the Internet

Topic l.: After some discussion the choice was narrowed down to San Diego, California, and SanAntonio, Texas.  As of this date, the results of the vote (not subject to recount, is San Diego --probably in mid to late October 2001.

More information on this at a later date.

Topic 2: Warren Priest and George White ( a web-page expert) led a spirited

discussion of the progress on the establishment  of a 120th Evac Hosp. web page on the Internet. Considerable progress has been made, and the process and procedures, problems ,and benefits were discussed at length. We voted to give Warren and George   $500 in “seed money”to help in this effort.  This is an ambitious project, and I am sure you will hear from Warren Priest as to its progress and purpose, and what we can do to ensure its success. Warren has

worked long and hard on this project , and will appreciate any support , material or financial, that you may be able to offer. If you have not heard from Warren, and would like to learn more and possibly  work with him, you     could contact him at 58 Mirror Lake Rd, Campton, NH  03223, or by e-mail

to: afflwep@worldpath,net.

The concluding event of our reunion was on Sunday evening  when had

a great banquet  with big band music furnished by “Men in Khaki” band ;

a band provided by the “negotiation”  of Milt Silva.  I am not sure how Milt got this band, but the music was great and added to the festive evening that all enjoyed.  We had a total of about 36 attendees, with a few late cancellations.

We apologize for any errors or omissions in this letter, but we assure you no malice was intended.   This is submitted in good faith and should not be subject to legal action or recount. Corrections, criticism, and comments will

be accepted.

       Respectfully  submitted,,

Aldean and Walt Mason for the Committee
